Curriculum

North Carolina’s Standard Course of Study defines the appropriate content standards for each grade level and each high school course to provide a uniform set of learning standards for every public school in North Carolina. These standards define what students know and should be able to do.

7th Grade Mathematics Standards:

  • Ratio and Proportional Reasoning (24-28%): Analyze proportional relationships and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems.
  • The Number System (8-12%): Apply and extend previous understandings of operations with fractions to add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational numbers.
  • Expressions and Equations (20-24%): Use properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions and solve real-world and mathematical problems using numerical and algebraic expressions, equations, and inequalities.
  • Geometry (16-20%): Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving angle measure, area, surface area, and volume and draw, construct and describe geometrical figures and describe the relationships between them.
  • Statistics and Probability (22-26%): Use random sampling draw inferences about a population, make informal inferences to compare two populations and investigate chance processes and develop, use, and evaluate probability models.

7th Grade Mathematics Testing Specifications will take you to the North Carolina Department of Education’s testing specifications site. There you can find out the weight for each strand on the Mathematics EOG. Within the seventh grade mathematics standards document you can find specific tasks that your child should be able to complete and the specific standards in the above strands.

7th Grade English Language Arts Standards:

  • Reading and Literature (34-38%)
  • Reading and Informational Text (41-45%)
  • Writing (N/A)
  • Speaking and Listening (N/A)
  • Language (14-18%)

7th Grade ELA Testing Specifications will take you to the North Carolina Department of Education’s testing specifications site. There you can find out the weight for each strand on the ELA EOG. Within the seventh grade ELA standards document you can find specific tasks that your child should be able to complete and the specific standards in the above strands.

7th Grade Standards:

  • Forces and Motion
  • Energy: Conservation and Transfer
  • Earth Systems, Structures and Processes
  • Structures and Functions of Living Organisms
  • Evolution and Genetics

The 7th Grade Science standards can be found at this link. The standards are unpacked and placed into “student friendly” terms.

CTE Curriculum:

At this time, the state of North Carolina is not testing middle grades CTE. 7th grade focuses on understanding the basics of computer skills and apps as well as a focus on learning to key properly.

Social Studies Standards:

While students will not take a standardized state test for Social Studies, students will be taught according to the North Carolina Social Studies standards.
