Lori Gilbert– Teacher/ English Language Arts-   My name is Lori Gilbert and I currently teach English/ Language Arts for the 5th grade classes of Fairview Elementary.  I am originally from New Orleans, Louisiana, but grew up here in the mountains of Jackson County.  About 20 years ago, I purchased the house I grew up in and continue to live in that house with my pet rock. I love music, theater, and organizing everything!  I play the piano for my church in Bryson City and do some side work as an interpreter for the deaf.

I received my education degrees from UNC-Greensboro and Western Carolina University and I am also Nationally Board certified.  I’ve taught many subjects over my last 20 years at Fairview, but always 5th grade and always ELA.  I love words.  I love reading them.  I love writing them.  I love watching kids to connect with them in a dog-eared book.  I love reading words that kids put on paper and watching how proud they are to have created something.  I love the kids I get to teach each day and am so thankful for the fabulous group of teachers that I get to work with.

Rebecca Barlowe- Teacher/Math.  This is my 9th year teaching in public schools, and I have taught all grades from 3rd through 8th grade!  I grew up in Ohio, and I graduated from Hope College in Michigan where I studied math and science education.  I have worked in restaurants, bookstores, a science museum and lab, preschool, and I even spent a summer as a camp counselor.  I have also helped coach soccer and basketball, and I love watching games!

My husband teaches computer science at Western Carolina University, and we have two daughters who attend Fairview School.  We enjoy reading, soccer, tennis, running, and spending time outside.  We really enjoy sharing stories about our pets and collecting clever jokes.  I love teaching math, and I hope the students in my class learn and have fun, too!

Andrea Rearigh- Teacher/Science-  Born and raised in Pennsylvania for 20 years, I moved here with my husband when I was 21 years old.  Before becoming a teacher, I earned a degree to practice Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork from Southwestern Community College.   I also spent many years managing local restaurants before I decided that I wanted to go back to school to teach.  I earned my B.A.Ed at Western Carolina University in 2011.  I completed my internship in 5th grade at Fairview and was lucky enough to stay in 5th grade for my current position.  Getting paid to do what I love is an awesome way to spend my day!

I have 3 of my own kiddos.  Chance is in 6th grade and the twins, Tuck and Lily, are in 2nd grade.   My husband, Craig, teaches carpentry and woodworking at Smoky Mountain High School.  My family loves to be outside, swim and travel.  We also love to watch the best team in the NFL, GO STEELERS!
